I don't think so. I tried to "back it up" to see something and it didn't work. This is a question for Producer Steve.

I was watching the tazer beer chug video the other day and I was promised a free year of podcasting for tazing Joe in the butt. I never did receive that free year.......
Of course that was back when what's-his-name was running the podcasts and not doing a spectacular job of same.

No offense, I'm sure you are a good person, but yes, in this case you are being a little bitch. It's $3 a month, for chrissakes! Even less if you go annual. What that little membership fee is doing is making the web content and podcast viable so that, in 10 years or so, when radio goes the way of the cassette tape, there will still be a distribution path for the Free Beer and Hot Wings Show. You might as well get used to paying for web content. Eventually, you will be paying for all content you access on the web in one form or another. The only alternative is that there will be no worthwhile content. What if your employer said, "I refuse to pay for overtime?" or "I refuse to reimburse expenses?" How quickly would you stop working extra hours and spending your own money on expenses? Rant off.

My working overtime or being reimbursed for expenses doesn't promote my business and gain me more listeners. The web content for them is promoting their show and trying to expand it to a larger audience and offering that content at no charge is a much better business practice, IMO. I have a website for my business that promotes it but I am not going to charge for the content because the service of that site is a cost of doing business and the more business I get from it, the lower my overhead becomes and the more my name gets out there.
Paying for podcasting is one thing but paying for a service that has little to no overhead, regardless of the price, is counter-intuitive to the goal of expanding their market.
I may be a little bitch for it, but deciding which content is available for all and what will be made for pay only is a bitch move too, IMO and I refuse to pay for it.
end rant as well.

Remember a long time ago, like 6 years or so, when all you could do was listen to the radio and, unless you recorded it, that's all you got?
The pay content pays for hosting and creating the website amongst other things. Somebody gets paid to produce and provide that content. The money to pay them has to come from somewhere.
I would imagine that the income from the VIP section pays Steve's salary. Why do you want poor Steve to starve? Why do you hate Steve? What did he ever do to you?

Also, I don't have cable because I refuse to pay for TV. In fact, if radio/tv ever go to pay only I won't listen/watch anymore. Should I just go to Walmart and get a walker, those cool magnifying glass reading glasses and some Depends now?

I imagine they must pay the company for whatever bandwidth they consume on their server. For a show in more than 20 markets and A LOT of content, I imagine the bill is not cheap. The 3 dollars goes to nothing but good for this show.

I don't really have a problem with certain things, such as the webcam, being VIP only. Yeah, I'd love to see them for free, but I can understand why they aren't, and the costs are low enough so that I feel like those who do pay get a good value.
Because of job changes and stuff I'm not able to podcast anymore, but if they continue to add good VIP content, I could see myself signing up for VIP just for the 'other' stuff.

My subscription to the podcast ran out but they gave me almost 6 extra months when I signed up. Not sure if this was an oversight or them being generous. I like to think it was them just throwing me an extra bone.

I may be a little bitch for it, but deciding which content is available for all and what will be made for pay only is a bitch move too, IMO and I refuse to pay for it. end rant as well. The problem with your analogy is that the website is there with the vast majority of its content for anyone to access. In the same way you don't make customers pay to use your site they don't charge for their site either. You can listen to their show as it airs for free every single day along with looking at pictures, links, blogs, highlights audio, etc. free of charge. They charge for bells and whistles. The better analogy is television. You can buy a TV and watch about 10 stations for free. But if you want more channels you have to pay more. If you want to watch shows at times other than when they air you have to pay for TiVo, DVD box sets, and in the past VHS tapes. People set standards so that appropriate value can be placed on special additions. It's how we as a society organize things so that everyone can operate on the same playing field. The show has chosen to do a podcast as a convenience to fans. But as with anything in life, you have to pay for convenience since it costs them time and money to produce it. Remember, the podcast itself has always been $3 a month. Since it originated they've added VIP videos and now the webcam yet the price is still $3. Nothing has been taken away from you. Before any of these bells and whistles came around all you had was a free radio show. You still have that now. What the show is doing isn't a bitch move. It's a smart move. It illustrates their success that they actually have content that is desired enough that it can be charged for on top of the regular services. It's smart business to charge for something that people are willing to pay for. I'm sorry but for me it doesn't make sense that you can label a show producing more content for the fans as a bad thing. It'd be nice if lived in a world where everyone did what they had to and then constantly did a lot more without expecting payment but that not how the world works. But hey, if your principles are worth $3 a month then the more power to you. You enjoy your one cup of Starbucks coffee a month while I'll enjoy being able to listen to the show and watch hilarious videos anytime I feel like it.
