I stole a Hot Wheels car from a kid up the street when I was 7 or 8. My mom found out and made me go back, return it, and apologize. To this day, the threat of embarrassment and shame is a bigger crime deterrent for me than jail.

Why are you stealing dognuts?? I thought that's what it said upon first glance! Is Potthole a British immigrant? Dognuts are very popular in the U.K. Hence the phrases "the dog's bollocks" and "the mutt's nuts," both of which are roughly equivalent to our "the cat's pajamas." Though I have to say I've never heard of anyone stealing them before...not even in Wales.

When I was probably 8 or 9, my family was on a camping trip to some place that I can't remember.
During the trip, I distinctly remember visiting a store and they had a rack of newspapers with the title "Free Press". Being so young, I had never heard of the Detroit Free Press, only the Grand Rapids Press. Naturaly, I thought that it meant that the newspaper was free so I took one.
It wasn't until I was in the car and my dad asked me where I got it, did I find out that I had stolen it. He gave me 35 cents and made me go back into the store and pay for it. I remember feeling pretty stupid.
