Centipede was a great game. I favored Donkey Kong Jr. over Donkey Kong.

Centipede was a great game. I favored Donkey Kong Jr. over Donkey Kong. I would have to agree. I liked Centipede better than Millipede too, but the DDT bombs you got with Millipede were freakin awesome.

I disagree. Mortal Kombat on the Sega Genesis is the best game ever.

I disagree. Mortal Kombat on the Sega Genesis is the best game ever. Donkey Kong sucks.

I'm curious to know if anyone besides me, Biff and Queenie has any clue what the pic right above the can of Pepsi Free is?

Close...it's a cable box. That very one was sitting on top of my family's lone, 19-inch color TV in 1981 when MTV was born. The switch on the left selects the band, the buttons select the channel, and the dial on the right adjusts the fine tuning.

What's the story behind that Count Scary doofus?

He hosted the weekly creature feature/B-grade horror flick on Channel 4, Detroit's local NBC affiliate. His signature line was "Ooh, that's SCAAARY!" Delivered in a cheesy Transylvania accent, of course. I'm sure Hot Wings and Zane both remember him.

Here are some more Detroit-specific ones:
This one was iconic--everybody knew it (careful, it's REALLY LOUD!):
Yes, this is THAT (former Detroit Lions running back) Mel Farr:
An ad for Boblo Island, which is on the Detroit River and used to have an amusement park on it. It's technically on the Canadian side, but you used to be able to take a steam boat ("The Boblo Boat") and go to the island without passing through Customs.
Highland Appliance was one of two major appliance chains in the Detroit area. Their HQ was in Plymouth, where I grew up. They always spent big on their ads, and made some very memorable ones:
The other big appliance chain was Fretter. Ollie Fretter wasn't as liberal with the ad budget.
Faygo ad--a true classic:
Oooh, look what I found by accident!
Bonus blast from the past with the Dick Purtan gag. He was a legendary morning radio host. He started before I was born, I think, and just retired a year or two ago.

I remember Highland and Fretter: Ollie's Oops sales and 50 watts per channel babycakes!

So that Count Scary doesn't seem as lame as I initially thought based off of the photo. Seems like he was pretty funny and not taking it serious.

When I first saw that photo posted in the thread I thought the guy was seriously trying to be a spooky vampire, to which I thought he was a massive dork.
