I was wondering how other members honestly view this forum. Sometimes I get frustrated that this place isn't as active as it used to be. I understand what goes up must come down but that doesn't mean it can't go up again. I think, in my opinion, this board needs to evolve. There has to be some way to reach out to a larger audience. 90% (yes I did the math ) of our topics aren't even FBHW related anymore. Maybe it's time to break ties with the show and try to find another audience of peoples. I love posting here so I would stay through thick and thin, even if it's just me and Biffler's Mom swapping meatloaf recipes. Thoughts? Suggestions? Fuck off Jiggy? ...or will this be another ignored thread?

I try to post my FBHW based threads to the FBHW area. The I can't wait to talk about... is that, nothing more nothing less, and sometimes the things we talk about there make it to the air. I definitely agree there used to be more participants, or at least ones that posted more often. Its probably just a lull though. I went through one and now I'm back to posting a little more often. Now we need to get the rest of the old gang back to posting. And don't break from the show, there are plenty of "other" boards out there that disscuss everything else.
That all being said.....
Fuck off Jiggy

For whatever reason, FBHW fans in general don't seem to gravitate towards messageboards. I remember when Opus started one a few years before this one and the traffic was very minimal. If you look at the official messageboard, that place is deserted. One of the reasons I required people to log in before viewing the board is to get a gauge of how many people are lurking. I don't know what needs to happen to increase interest in the board (beyond it getting mentioned on the show again - which isn't going to happen) but am open to suggestions.

Also, we have lost a couple of regulars who really spiced up the place: Fistor, Philly Mike, Peachs, HotZester, Howie, Boiza, and Weinerpoopie.

If we could return to our former glory by a show mention I think this would call for queenie to be our first two time message board MVP. I would even start podcasting again so I could stay hip to the show topics.

Marijuana legalization really draws the members here out of the woodwork. Maybe we should switch to being a pot messageboard.

Well, if the board IS to remain FBHW-related, I think the best way to attract more participants is to post more--a LOT more--threads related to the show. Topics they are currently discussing...something stupid that one of them said or did, etc. I have tried to get threads like this started a couple of times, but they didn't take off. Also, I'm always a few days behind on the podcast, so nothing I would post would be very current. No offense, Biff, but I think forcing a logon to view content will do more harm than good. Lurkers may eventually become posters. If I was searching for a FBHW-related forum, landed here, and learned that I had to create an account just to see if there's anything worth reading, I probably wouldn't bother with it. Thinking of some guerrilla tactics to get some attention, we could edit the wikipedia page. Currently, the only mention is the very last external link. We could create a section in the main article that mentions the board. We could also regularly post on their Facebook page...not exactly spamming it, but posting legit comments and signing the posts --"Rebel" from fbhwforum.com. But either of those things might irritate the hosts, and I don't think we want that. For whatever reason, they seem to go out of the way not to mention this board. I have heard Biff call in a few times, and I'm sure they know who he is, but they don't take the opportunity to say "Biff from the Free Beer and Hot Wings Listener-Run Message Board." BTW, it's entirely possible that I am the reason this board has gotten so quiet. That has happened to forums shortly after I have joined often enough that I'm starting to think it may not be a coincidence.

Just to play devil's advocate, but there's a board I'm on that tried the opposite of this-- used to be 'closed' but 'opened' things up when posting slowed way down-- and things didn't get any better. Hard to say which option is really the best.

Hard to say which option is really the best. This is a tough call. In the last two weeks that the board requires people to sign in, we've had more legitimate new accounts than we have had in the last year. Most of the content is indexed on Google already which is how most people would find us anyway. I will defer to the opinions of the moderating team on this one.

I have thought about that too but I don't want to start a thread every day and be a "board hog". It is one of the reasons that I don't always reply immediately in a thread. How irritating is it to see, via the board index, the admin's name in every sub-forum as the most recent poster? The show doesn't mention the board for advertising reasons. They need to draw people to their own website so that they can show potential and current advertisers their click rate. I completely understand this - bandwidth etc isn't free and they have earned every dollar they make.

more dick jokes=more people. my two cents.
also, a designated fat guy that we can all verbally punch around and only gets worse the more we learn about him would really go a long way.
