Just bought my first NEW car yesterday. 2011 GMC Terrain. Got a good deal, because it was a demo, but only has 2,300 miles on it. I won't get to drive it much though because it's the wifey's car.
... hopefully the monthly payments are worth it!

I drove it for the first time today. It was soooo sweet!! I'm sure your GMC has all the new bells and whistles too. The camera in the rearview mirror kind of threw me off when I went to back up. I decided using the side mirrors was better for me.

Congrats on the new Terrain! That is a nice vehicle.
Possible new car for me coming this weekend...well, used, because I'm cheap. I'm having a friend drive me 5 hours to check it out. If it's good and the deal is right, I'll bring it home. It would suck to come all the way home without it, but I have to make the dealer think I will if they don't give me the deal I want. I already have the loan lined up. Could be a happy birthday!

I just bought a 2011 Ford Escape about a month ago. Absolutely love it.

Possible new car for me coming this weekend...well, used, because I'm cheap. I ended up doing the deal over the phone today. 2007 Saab 9-3 Aero. Turbo V-6. 6-speed manual. Every option except navigation. Retailed for over $30,000 new, I got it for $15,000 and it's still under warranty with 42,000 miles. I love buying used. Technically, I could swing a brand new car, but after three years with no car note, $400 - $500 a month is a tough pill to swallow. Going to pic it up in Erie, PA on Friday. Gonna catch a Seawolves game while I'm at it.

Nice! Congratulations.
I buy used too. Cash rules. Run 'em til they die. The greatest epiphany anyone can have is that it really doesn't matter what other people think of your car.

...The greatest epiphany anyone can have is that it really doesn't matter what other people think of your car. This is why I drive a 2001 Ford Escort Cheap, good gas mileage, and just paid it off with the tax return I am however trying to sell it, to upgrade to my father-in-law's 2003 Buick LeSabre - better car, same mileage, still no payment, and I think cheaper insurance, since I will be going from a 2-door to a 4-door.

I agree, but there is one exception: when you are single and picking up a lady for a date, "Your rustbucket awaits" is not very impressive. Trust me. I know.

I was reading the rules about the Onstar Push On contest, where you can win a new car (www2.onstar.com/web/portal/pushon) seems like everyone hates Canadians. Found this line in the rules: For Canadian residents only, as a condition of winning a prize, potential prize winner must correctly answer a mathematical time-limited skill-testing question. EDIT: I found the answer as to why this is... a little long, but interesting Many people wonder if the skill testing questions are thought up by the sponsors to prevent Canadians from winning as often. However, Canadian sweepstakes don't have skill testing questions because the sponsors want to discriminate against Canadians, but because they are required by Canadian sweepstakes law. In the Introduction to Contests and Sweepstakes, I wrote about how lotteries have three major components: the prizes have value, the sponsor benefits from the sweepstakes financially, and the winner is chosen at random. In order to avoid being an illegal private lottery, at least one of the three components must be removed.
In the United States, the sponsor usually removes the financial benefit component to avoid being classified as an illegal lottery. That is why most sweepstakes include statements in their rules that confirms that the entrant does not have to pay to enter, and that a purchase will not change the chances of winning.
Canadians Use a Different Method to Avoid Illegal Lotteries Canadian sweepstakes law, unlike American law, requires that the third component, "winners are chosen by luck," is removed. Sponsors cannot use pure luck to determine who wins a sweepstake. There must be at least some element of skill involved.
In order remove the element of pure chance, sponsors narrow the field of potential winners by requiring a skill testing question to enter their contests. Every entrant does not have the same chance to win; only those who at least pass the skill testing question are eligible to win prizes. Of course, this is only a technicality. Most people can pass the skill testing questions without difficulty, although sponsors are required to make the test somewhat challenging.

Can you believe I am actually starting to have this realization? Yes, me. Now when it comes to sleds, bikes, and boats.....
